If you are new to Drunk Elephant, I'd recommend checking out two of my personal favorites, the Lala Retro Whipped Cream and the T.L.C. However, given how many Drunk Elephant favorites I've found so far, I'm not too let down. Overall, the Lippe Balm is nice but very pricey and the two sunscreens are just too greasy. Come winter time, I will definitely need something richer and heavier. However, the formulation is not the most hydrating I've tried. It is effective and comfortable albeit very pricey. For me, this is a great lip balm that's certainly superior to the likes of Burt's Bees. It glides easily on the lips but isn't as slick as some lightweight lip balms can be therefore, it does stick around a bit longer but it's no match for heavier petroleum-based liquid lip balms (ex. With no discernable scent, the balm is very emollient and buttery. Also infused with green tea extract, avocado, mongongo, and cranberry oil, the balm contains sea fern algae-derived peptides designed to plump and define the lips. Housed in a chubby twist-up packaging that almost looks like a mini glue stick, the Drunk Elephant Lippe Balm is formulated with a base of coconut oil, marula oil, and shea butter. Unless you have dry skin or really love that dewy look, the greasy finish may be a dealbreaker.ĭrunk Elephant | Lippe Balm ($22 CAD for 3.7 g): Lastly, the formulation suffers from the same problem as that of Umbra Sheer. It's not really noticeable unless you are standing under bright sunlight but because they are sparse and more sparkly than glowy, I find them a bit unnecessary. Additionally, Umbra Tinte has just the tiniest hint of shimmer. Therefore, the application is a bit streaky and requires some effort to ensure an even tint. I noticed that some of the pigments are either poorly-mixed or purposely encapsulated within the sunscreen. However, the color is definitely too dark for me and is suitable for those with medium or darker skin tones (NC/NW 30 and beyond). With a sheer but notable light bronze tint, this version doesn't leave behind any white cast. Made with the same base formulation as Umbra Sheer, Umbra Tinte is a tinted physical sunscreen providing the same SPF 30 UVA/UVB protection. Overall, this sunscreen is perfectly adequate for the neck and body but I would recommend looking elsewhere if you want a good sunscreen for the face.ĭrunk Elephant | Umbra Tinte Physical Daily Defense SPF 30ĭrunk Elephant | Umbra Tinte Physical Daily Defense SPF 30 ($44 CAD for 60 ml): So for those with medium to dark skin, I cannot imagine how unflattering it will look. Additionally, the white cast is quite prominent despite the fact that my skin is pretty fair to begin with. I would not use it under makeup unless I dab on only a small amount and blot before applying foundation. The greasy finish subdues a bit after 15 or so minutes but my face remains shiny unless set with a powder. Unfortunately, Umbra Sheer has issues with both as it leaves the skin with a noticeable oily, whitish residue. When it comes sunscreen for the face, I dread a greasy, slick finish and an unflattering white cast. With that said, I had no problem with the application as the sunscreen spreads easily and evenly. I realize that's a strange description but the formulation indeed has a unique, glue-like "pull". The product dispenses as a lightweight white cream that has a slightly "gloopy" texture. Infused with algae extract rich in antioxidants, sunflower sprout that neutralizes free radicals, and grape juice that soothes and calms redness, Umbra Sheer is suitable for application on the face, neck, chest, and the rest of the body. Free of what Drunk Elephant calls the “Suspicious 6” (essential oils, drying alcohols, silicones, chemical sunscreens, fragrance/dyes, and SLS), all three products promise high efficacy and quality ingredients. Summer is now in full swing so I want to share a bit about two sunscreens offered by Drunk Elephant, along with a soothing, hydrating lip balm.
